Her Excellency Shamma Almazrui participates in Conference of Youth on Climate Change in Turkmenistan

Her Excellency Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Development and COP28 Youth Climate Champion, participated in the Conference of Youth on Climate Change (LCOY) held in Turkmenistan with a speech presented on a virtual call. During the presentation, Her Excellency emphasized the importance of investing in the younger generation’s energy to drive initiatives and effectively integrate youth in all events and programs of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
Her Excellency Al Mazrui highlighted that the UAE has laid out a comprehensive strategy for the crucial conference focusing on four key objectives: amplifying the youth's voices and enabling their active participation in COP28, empowering youth through specialized education, formalizing their engagement in national, regional, and global climate processes, and fostering youth-driven initiatives while encouraging them to take up leadership roles by providing them with increased access to platforms that support their contributions to climate action.
At the event, His Excellency Ahmed Al Hameli, UAE Ambassador to Turkmenistan, also gave a speech, in which he presented the UAE’s efforts in the field of environment, climate action, and renewable energy projects.
HE Al Hameli stressed that the UAE’s hosting of COP28 marks a significant milestone in global climate action. The COP28 Presidency is committed to following a strategy aligned with the UAE leadership’s vision, which relies on collaborative international efforts to elevate global ambitions, leading to concrete progress on climate action. The aim is to progress from statements and pledges to achieving tangible and practical outcomes in combating climate change. Furthermore, His Excellency highlighted the UAE’s notable achievements in the fields of education and youth empowerment.
The conference was organized by the UN Resident Coordinator Office in collaboration with the UAE’s Embassy and the UK’s Embassy in Turkmenistan, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education in Turkmenistan.
