Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Meets with General Women's Union and UN Women Liaison Office to Discuss WPS Agenda
On the sidelines of a meeting between the United Nations Department in the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the General Women’s Union on Tuesday, His Excellency Khaled Abdullah Belhoul, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Her Excellency Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women's Union (GWU), to discuss initiatives in the Women, Peace and Security agenda to enhance the role of women locally and internationally.
This comes in line with the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), and "Mother of the Nation.”
Furthermore, Sheikha Dr. Moza bint Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, chaired a meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi with Her Excellency Noura Al Suwaidi; Her Excellency Ahood Al Zaabi, Director of the United Nations Department at the Ministry; His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Dhaheri, Director of the Strategy and Future Department; Her Excellency Maryam Al Mazrouei, Director of the African Affairs Department; Her Excellency Dr. Mouza Al-Shehhi, Executive Director of the UN Women Liaison Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council, and Ministry employees. Participants discussed initiatives to promote the WPS agenda and efforts to strengthen cooperation with partners to enact these initiatives.
Sheikha Dr. Moza bint Tahnoun Al Nahyan noted the initiative by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak to establish the Fatima bint Mubarak Center for Women, Peace and Security in 2021. This reflects the UAE's keenness to build national, regional, and global capacities in the WPS field to raise awareness on women’s roles in peacebuilding operations, she noted. Moreover, Sheikha Dr. Moza bint Tahnoun Al Nahyan said that the UAE will remain a strong supporter of peace and security initiatives, explaining that in appreciation of these efforts, the United Nations announced the Fatima bint Mubarak Women, Peace and Security Initiative in 2020 to train women to work in the military, security, and peacebuilding fields.
Sheikha Dr. Moza bint Tahnoun Al Nahyan expressed her appreciation to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak for organizing and sponsoring the International Conference on Women, Peace and Security in Abu Dhabi in September 2022. She thanked Her Highness for her unlimited support for efforts to enhance the status of women, advance their capabilities, and empower them in the UAE.
