
H.E. Khalifa bin Shaheen Al Marar
Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
His Excellency Khalifa bin Shaheen Al Marar began his diplomatic career in June 1978 when he was appointed as a Diplomatic Attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 1978 and 1981, he served at the UAE Embassy in Tokyo, and from 1982 to 1985, he worked at the Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations in New York.
In 1986, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Arab World Department at the Ministry's headquarters in Abu Dhabi. He later served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Syrian Arab Republic from 1990 to 1995.
From 1995 to 1998, H.E. Al Marar was Director of the Gulf Cooperation Council Affairs Department in Abu Dhabi. In 1999, he was appointed as the UAE Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran and concurrently served as a non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, holding both positions until 2009. He then served as Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry from 2009 to 2016.
Between 2016 and 2018, he was appointed UAE Ambassador to Ankara. From August 2018 until 9 February 2021, he served as Assistant Minister for Political Affairs.
H.E. Al Marar has represented the UAE at numerous international forums and participated in bilateral and multilateral meetings across regional and international organizations. He holds a Master’s degree in Political Economy from The New School for Social Research in New York and a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Business Administration from Sofia University in Japan.
