UAE Embassy to India urged Emiratis in India to avoid withdrawn 500 and 1,000 Rupees banknotes.
The UAE Embassy in New Delhi has called on the Emirati citizens visiting or residing in India to ensure that a receipt is given when exchanging currency, following the Indian Government's decision to withdraw the old 500 and 1,000 Rupees notes and to update the 500 and 2,000 Rupees notes, as of 9th November 2016.
UAE Ambassador to New Delhi Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Banna, said the Indian law does not provide for bringing Indian currency from outside India. It, however, allows the traveler to bring a foreign currency, up to10,000 US Dollar.
He urged the Emirati citizens traveling to India to carry credit cards, for use in hotels, restaurants and hospital, due to the current shortage of the Rupee supply.
"If it is necessary to carry a cash amount, it has to be in US Dollar or Euro. It is also necessary to make sure that the 500 and 2,000 notes are the ones that are now on circulation," he added.
Ambassador Al Banna stressed the need for UAE citizens to respect laws and regulations in all countries they visit, and to cooperate with the authorities there.
