H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Chairman of the Education and Human Resources Council (EHRC), chaired the seventh meeting of the council, held in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
At the beginning of the meeting, the EHRC members approved minutes of the previous meeting.
Sheikh Abdullah emphasised the need for promoting the spirit of tolerance in different educational sectors, as well as the importance of setting a charter for teachers in the government schools and universities, to spread tolerance and equality.
Dr. Nasser Al Hamli, Under-secretary for Emiratisation Affairs at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), and Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Awar, Director General of the Federal Authority for Human Resources (FAHR), presented a study comparing database for the Emirati university graduates with the job seekers.
They referred to the EHRC's resolution on 31st August, mandating FAHR to introduce new job titles for the required specialisations to the graduates of the three government universities for the past five years and to conduct a study on the job market for the employed graduates and other job seekers.
They also cited discrepancies in the information provided by different entities and a weakness in the tracking systems for the status of employment.
Dr. Al Hamli and Dr. Al Awar pointed out that females made up 93% of job seekers registered with MoHRE and 91%, registered with Abu Dhabi Government's Human Resources Authority (HRA). They further revealed that graduates of business administration and economics represented 25% of job seekers, saying the preferred jobs for Emiratis are managers, specialists, technicians, assistant specialists and support officers.
They recommended development of a unified database for the Emirati job seekers, in coordination with the three government universities, namely; UAE University (UAEU), Zayed University (ZU) and Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT).
Dr. Mohammed Al Mu'alla, Under-secretary of Academic Affairs at the Ministry of Education, gave details on the external evaluation for the academic programmes at the government universities, necessary for the academic accreditation.
He said the five government institutions; UAEU, ZU, HCT, National Defence College and Emirates Diplomatic Academy, received accreditations after their external evaluation.
The meeting was attended by Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention; Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation; Hussein bin Ibrahim Al Hamadi, Minister of Education; Jameela bint Salem Al Muhairi, Minister of State for Public Education; Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education; Shamma bint Sohail Faris AlMazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs; and other officials.
