HE Dr. Anwar Gargash attends meeting on implementation of Sharm el-Sheikh Summit resolutions

The UAE participated in the meetings of the panel tasked to follow up on the implementation of the resolutions of the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit, held at the General Secretariat of the Arab League, at the ministerial level.

The UAE delegation to the meetings was headed by HE Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. It also included Mohammed bin Nakhira Al Dhaheri, the UAE Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, and Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, the Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs.

The panel includes the Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Kuwait, Morocco, Mauritania, Jordan and the Arab League's Secretary-General. It reviewed the implementation of the resolutions of the recent Sharm el-Sheikh Summit.

Headed by Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri, the panel members thanked the Arab states which have paid their full contributions or half of their share to support the Palestinian balance sheet. He thanked Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE for their immediate response to pay their contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

It urged the member states to pledge their full support to the legitimate Libyan government and undertake measures to address critical humanitarian situation in Yemen, as the number of those who need humanitarian aid has risen to 16 million people.

The panel also called for allocating $10 million every month for one year to Somalia to support the balance sheet in order to ensure stability there.

On the occupation of the three UAE islands of Tunb Greater, Tunb Lesser and Abu Mousa by Iran, the panel called on the Arab states to raise the issue with Iran when they communicate with it to reiterate the need to end occupation of the three islands.

About setting up of the joint Arab force, it thanked Egypt, the chair of the current session, and the General Secretariat for their efforts to follow up on the implementation of the Arab Summit resolutions to set up such a force. The panel said consultations were necessary before holding the meeting of the Arab Defence Council, comprising the Arab Foreign and Defence Ministers, in accordance with the resolutions of the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit.
