United Arab Emirates inaugurates 10 maternity centers in Afghanistan as part of UAE’s comprehensive development program
The initiative aligns with the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian and developmental efforts as part of its foreign aid policy, through projects and development programs in various countries, which are implemented and overseen by the UAE Coordination Office for Humanitarian Aid in Afghanistan.
Her Excellency Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasized that the UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, continues its humanitarian, charitable, and developmental efforts in Afghanistan. The 10 maternity centers were officially opened across the seven provinces in Afghanistan on Monday, December 2nd. Two centers were established in each of the Herat, Kandahar, and Paktia provinces, while additional centers were opened in Jalalabad, Helmand, Paktika, and Mazar-i-Sharif. Her Excellency noted that the first female birth was recorded the day after the inauguration of the Mazar-i-Sharif centre, and the new-born girl was named Fatima, in honour of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak (the ‘Mother of the Nation’).
Furthermore, Her Excellency affirmed the UAE’s commitment to assisting communities and people in need, in accordance with the enduring humanitarian legacy of the Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to extend care to people regardless of their location, and to work to provide essential healthcare services to communities in need across the world.
