Abdullah Bin Zayed participates in Expanded International Ministerial Meeting on Syria

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the Expanded International Ministerial Meeting on Syria, held today in Aqaba, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The meeting, convened at Jordan’s invitation, was part of the Aqaba Ministerial Meetings to discuss developments in Syria.

Alongside Sheikh Abdullah, the meeting was attended by H.H. Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia; Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar; Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan; Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq; Abdullah Bou Habib, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon; Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of Egypt; Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain; and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League.

Also present were Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States; Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye; Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister of Foreign Affairs of France; representatives of other members of the Small Group on Syria, including the United Kingdom and Germany; Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; and Geir Pedersen, UN Special Envoy for Syria.

Sheikh Abdullah highlighted that this expanded meeting reflects a collective international stance in support of Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and the aspirations of its people for security, stability, and a dignified life.

He stressed the importance of regional and international cooperation to reach a political settlement in Syria, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

He emphasised the need to support and assist UN Special Envoy Geir Pedersen in his efforts to achieve a political resolution that establishes security and stability in Syria, benefiting its people with prosperity and well-being.

Sheikh Abdullah expressed gratitude to Jordan for hosting this expanded ministerial meeting and extended appreciation to all participating countries and entities for their commitment to supporting Syria’s unity, security, and stability.

The meeting was also attended by Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs.
