UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs participates in Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network Conference in Romania

Ms. Ahood Al Zaabi, Director of the United Nations Department in the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), participated in the Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network conference, which was held in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, from 7 to 9 November 2023, co-chaired by the United States and Romania. The conference was attended by representatives from the General Women’s Union, and representative from UAE’s Embassy in Romania.
During the conference, Al Zaabi reviewed the most important achievements of the UAE regarding the implementation of the national plan related to Security Council Resolution 1325, and the UAE’s efforts to promote the agenda of Women, Peace and Security through the launch of the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Initiative for Women, Peace and Security, where more than 500 women from African, Asian and Arab countries were trained.
She highlighted ways of joint cooperation in order to unify the efforts of the Centers of Excellence for Women, Peace and Security. In this regard, Al Zaabi stated the establishment of Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Center for Women, Peace and Security, which aims to promote knowledge, encourage the exchange of information and best practice in relation to building capacities and training women to work within the military, security and peace sectors.
 
Al Zaabi shared some of the best practices on how we can move forward and build upon the vital work accomplished by the Network in Washington and New York earlier this year. Through the conference, Al Zaabi highlighted women’s effective role in the decision-making process in the security sector, emphasizing the UAE’s keenness to enhance women's active participation and empowerment across various fields.
Al Zaabi also stated that the UAE signed an agreement during the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly in New York; that seeks to achieve the strategic objectives of Security Council Resolution 1325 and enhance women’s participation and inclusion in peace and security.
