Her Excellency Noura Al Kaabi participates in 42nd session of UNESCO General Conference
During the discussion panel session, which was held under the title “partnerships in support of the climate”, Her Excellency Al Kaabi emphasized that the UAE’s participation in the conference reflects the country’s deep-rooted commitment to promoting the objectives and values represented by UNESCO, and the country’s aims to achieve sustainable development and reinforce international cooperation, particularly in light of the current circumstance and challenges facing the international community.
Her Excellency stated: “The UAE is committed to effectively participating in regional and international efforts, and in encouraging all endeavors towards achieving stability and development across various sectors, especially regarding climate action.”
H.E. highlighted the importance of joint efforts to combat climate change, to ensure a better future for humanity and future generations, as climate change and the absence of sustainable and efficient solutions could potentially lead to global conflict, and new challenges across various key sectors.
H.E. added: “Addressing such challenges is now more possible than ever before due to technological development which could assist in devising innovative solutions and alternative methods, alongside cooperation and collaborative efforts.”
H.E. emphasized the UAE’s keenness to effectively and proactively respond to climate change on a local and international level, and to adopt practices and to develop and implement innovative solutions to preserve the environment and ensure its sustainability in collaboration with the international community. HE stressed that the UAE is focused on these solutions in light of the increased scientific evidence regarding the impact of climate change on the political, economic, societal, and environmental fields.
Furthermore, Her Excellency highlighted that the UAE’s hosting of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which will take place from November 30 to December 12, 2023, in Expo City Dubai, will focus on achieving measurable and concrete advances on climate action. The COP28 Presidency is keen on adopting an inclusive approach and on collaborative international efforts to elevate global ambitions, to progress from statements and pledges to achieving tangible and practical outcomes to combat climate change.
Notably, the 42nd session of UNESCO’s General Conference, which is taking place from November 7 to 22, is focused on multiple files and issues, primarily climate change and digital transformation, in addition to the importance of cooperation between relevant authorities to overcome emerging global challenges. The conference is being attended by member state delegations, representatives from several domestic and international organizations, and civil society organizations.
