The "100 Mentors Programme," a youth initiative launched by Emirates Youth Council, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has organised a session, titled, "International Competitiveness."
The session hosted Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and saw the attendance of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development and Chairman of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare.
In her introductory speech, Shamma bint Sohail Faris AlMazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, said, "Today, we are fortunate to be in the presence of a personality whose international achievements we are all proud of, and who has worked discreetly behind many of our international achievements. The story of her success is one that we are proud of as the youth, and her youthful and ambitious spirit has achieved the impossible. She is not only an example and role model for us as the UAE’s youth, but she is our messenger to the world about the secret of the UAE’s success, as behind the nation’s success stories are people who work with dedication, such as Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy."
Al Hashimy began her mentoring session today by talking about a few events in her life that she considers to be different on all levels, as well as the start of her educational and professional life, where she began to dedicate herself to her ultimate goal of serving the nation.
During the session, which was organised on the sidelines of the UAE’s International Youth Day celebrations and saw the attendance of over 700 male and female youths, Al Hashimy spoke about the moment when she was appointed as a minister in the federal government.
She pointed out that representing the nation is not only for those working in federal and local government authorities, but every citizen is an ambassador of the UAE, as they are the best representatives of the nation and its people, and its hopes, history, values and ethics.
"We cannot forget that 2018 will be the Year of Zayed, which is a golden opportunity to send an international message about the values of our founding father that we represent with pride in our daily actions," she added.
While answering a question about the lessons the youth can benefit from and her academic and professional advice for students and employees, she explained that there is no limit to success and that perseverance is the key to open the doors of future success. She added that employment success can only be achieved by loving one’s job, which requires some effort. She also clarified that failure is a great opportunity to learn and try again to develop one’s self.
She stressed that the most important value for the youth, in her opinion, is the value of respect, adding that the UAE is a country that respects everyone. She then mentioned the example of the UAE’s experience in hosting the "Expo 2020 file," and that the government respected everyone’s points of view and opinions.
The "100 Mentors Programme", which has chosen 100 exceptional people and experts in the UAE to mentor the youth in various fields, is a programme that was launched under the National Agenda for the Youth 2021, to connect the country’s youth with national role models, to pass on the latter’s’ expertise and knowledge.
