A UK Parliament delegation, accompanied by Sulaiman Hamed Al Mazrouei, UAE Ambassador to the United Kingdom, have been briefed on the National Tolerance Programme, which was devised to promote the values of tolerance, peace, and coexistence, and refute extremism and nepotism.
Rashed Al Tanaiji, Member of the National Tolerance Programme, presented the programme's seven main pillars, which give the UAE community its values of tolerance: "Islam, UAE Constitution, Zayed's Legacy, UAE Ethics, International Conventions, Archeology, and History,'' Al Tanaiji said.
The five main themes of the programme, he added, are to "Strengthen the government's role as an incubator of tolerance, consolidate the role of family in nation building, promote tolerance among young people and prevent them from fanaticism and extremism, enrich scientific and cultural content on tolerance, and contribute to international efforts in promoting tolerance and highlight the leading role of UAE in this area."
Al Tanaiji also pointed out the major initiatives that fall under the programme, such as the International Institute for Tolerance, the Mohammed bin Rashid Tolerance Award, the Community of Volunteers for Tolerance, the Voice of Tolerance Initiative, the Teacher’s Covenant for Tolerance, and the Imams’ Covenant for Tolerance.
