HE Dr. Anwar Gargash receives UN Special Envoy for Yemen

H.E. Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has received Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

They discussed the situation in Yemen and horizons of the political solution based on the Gulf Initiative mechanisms and the related United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, especially Resolution 2216.

The UN official briefed Gargash about his consultations and communications in the wake of the meetings between the Yemeni parties in Kuwait.

H.E. Gargash said that UAE continues its support for exerted international efforts and supports the political solution based on main references.

He also pointed out that it was necessary for the political solution to be based on Resolution No. 2216 and not to depart from it, and that the basic security mechanisms that pave the way for a political solution will be clear and precise.

H.E. Gargash emphasised that the UAE will continue to support the efforts of the international envoy and will launch positive and constructive ideas that bring security and peace to Yemen.

He also reiterated the UAE's backing to the efforts of Ould Cheikh Ahmed and supported the political solution based on the main references.
