Inauguration of OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission International Seminar on “Right to Development” held in collaboration with MoFAIC and UN office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
AOIC-IPHRC International Seminar on "Right to Development" was inaugurated today at the Sofitel Hotel in Abu Dhabi. The Seminar is being held in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE and OHCHR to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 'UN Declaration on Right to Development' from 12-13 October 2016.
H.E Dr. Abdul Rahim Al Awadi, UAE Assistant Minister of legal affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Yousef Al Othaimeen, Chief Adviser to the OIC Secretary General and Amb. Abdul Wahab IPHRC Chairperson inaugurated the Seminar. The two day Seminar will be attended by all OIC Member and Observer States including their National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), experts from different relevant international and regional organizations, senior officials of the United Nations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of UAE and concerned parties from the country in the field of development.
The Seminar aims to call for a renewed reflection and joint action by all stakeholders, both at the national and international levels to ensure that every citizen gets to participate, contribute to and benefit from the fruits of this highly significant right to development.
Ongoing discussions are focusing on how to ensure effective realization of various Sustainable Development Goals through the lens of the Right to Development. The Seminar will also make recommendations towards ensuring a people-centred and planet-sensitive development agenda, which upholds human dignity, equality, environmental stewardship, healthy economies, freedom from want and fear and a renewed global partnership for sustainable development.
