UAE Ambassador to Beirut Hamad Saeed Sultan Al Shamsi met with Philippe Lazzarini, UN Deputy Special Coordinator for Lebanon.

Ambassador Al Shamsi lauded Lazzarini's track record in humanitarian work and stressed the importance of cooperation among all international organisations to address the current issues, including the Syrian displacement crisis.

He also said it was important that the UN shoulders its humanitarian duty in the crisis which impacts Syria, as well as Arab and western countries.

Lazzarini emphasised the need for a political solution to the Syrian crisis to put an end to the massive displacement, which he described as "a real humanitarian catastrophe."

He called for assistance to Lebanon and its government since the country faces the heavy burden of providing for over 1.5 million displaced people.

He also called for further cooperation between the UAE embassy and the UN and referred to the country's vital humanitarian and charitable projects in Lebanon.
