HE Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State, Chairman of the National Media Council (NMC), has said that values such as loyalty and dedication are inherent in the UAE society and enshrined in the directives of the UAE leadership.

He said in statement on the Commemoration Day (Martyr's Day) that these qualities are cherished by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and are being followed up by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Their Highnesses Rulers of the Emirates and Supreme Council Members.

He said the Commemoration Day, observed on the 30th November each year, and for the first time this year, demonstrates that "the UAE leadership, government and people are proud of the venerable sacrifices made by the martyrs of our valiant armed forces, the diplomatic corps, civil society organisations and the UAE relief and humanitarian workers."

Dr. Al Jaber said that the martyrdom of a group of valiant soldiers, who died while taking part in the Arab coalition forces, led by Saudi Arabia, "constitutes a landmark in the history of the UAE, besides its glorious achievements in various fields since its inception under the leadership of the founding father, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan - may God grant eternal rest to his soul."

"Our heroes sacrificed their lives for the noble values of truth and to ensure the security and stability of the homeland and the region, as well as in support of our brothers in Yemen to help them regain their freedom, safeguard the legitimacy and provide humanitarian assistance to them in line with the international resolutions, especially the UN Security Council resolution No. 2216," he said.

Dr. Al Jaber stressed that the leadership was keen to give this constellation of martyrs of the nation "a new page of splendour, glory and pride inherent in our martyrs" as Emiratis back their families in a magnificent display of national cohesion and solidarity."

He added that on this day, "we remember with pride Salem Suhail bin Khamis, who was the first martyr after the inception of the state. He sacrificed his life, defending the sovereignty of the state on the island of Greater Tunb, being occupied by Iran since 30th November,1971. Hence, the UAE President dedicated this day to be a Martyr's Day to assure the sons and daughters of the UAE that the sacrifices of our martyrs will continue to inspire."

Dr. Al Sultan said the unwavering support of all members of the society to the armed forces and the families of the martyrs present to the world a new image of the UAE that makes it clear that the economic, social, cultural and urban development taking place in the state would not have been possible without the security, safety and stability guaranteed by the UAE armed forces and other security authorities.

He explained that the UAE society is known for its intellectual, cultural and political consciousness, but "what distinguishes us most is a special relationship between the leadership and the people that did not come from a vacuum." This relationship is the result of the good seeds planted by the founding father, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who believed that "the human resource is the most important wealth owned by homelands."

Dr. Al Jaber noted that based on this conviction, "our leadership continues to invest in education, training and development of future and long-term strategic planning to promote this human wealth."
