The UAE Embassy in Paris participated in the 2024 Salon des Beaux-Arts through a partnership that showcased the photographs of a group of distinguished Emirati artists.

The Salon des Beaux-Arts, established in 1864, is a prestigious and historic event in the art world and stands as a beacon of high-caliber art, celebrating both tradition and innovation in the arts.

Annually attracting 12,000 visitors, it features the works of 80 top artists carefully selected by a committee of cultural professionals.

Under the patronage of the President of the French Republic, this exhibition, which opened this year on June 20th at L’Orangerie, an iconic venue of the French Senate, continues to highlight diverse artistic expressions, presenting over a hundred works, including photography, engravings, installations, paintings, and more.

This year's exhibition showcased the work of five Emirati photographers: Karima Al Shomely, Fatima Albudoor, Faisal Al Rais, Ola Allouz, and Jalal Jamal Bin Thaneya. This marks the first participation of its kind for Emirati artists in this prestigious art event.

In a significant recognition of talent, the Guest Jury at the 2024 Salon des Beaux-Arts awarded Emirati photographer Karima Al Shomely the silver medal.

On this occasion, Her Excellency Hend Al Otaiba, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the French Republic, said “For the first time, Emirati photographers are being showcased at the Salon, a prestigious cultural event since 1864.

As an ambassador dedicated to fostering intercultural dialogue, I am immensely proud to offer the French public and international visitors the opportunity to experience Emirati arts and culture through the perspectives of our talented Emirati artists.

This deep commitment to culture is reflected in our diplomacy.

We firmly believe that art contributes to building bridges of understanding and dialogue between cultures.”

Isabelle Lawson, Director of Salon des Beaux Arts said “We are honored to welcome artists from the UAE for the first time, enriching our event with their unique talents.

This collaboration underscores our deep appreciation for the UAE’s rich artistic heritage and reaffirms our commitment to celebrating and promoting diverse cultural expressions.”
