UAE and Kingdom of Tonga sign promotion and protection of investment agreement
The agreement was signed on behalf of the UAE by His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State, and by His Excellency Siaosi Sovaleni, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga.
His Excellency Al Sayegh underscored the UAE's keenness to strengthen relations with the Kingdom of Tonga, and the various opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two nations in different fields.
His Excellency also emphasized that during COP28 the UAE is focused on unifying international efforts to find practical, sustainable solutions to the most urgent challenges facing the countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including the Pacific island countries, as these islands face existential risks as a result of rising sea levels.
Furthermore, His Excellency Al Sayegh stressed the importance of enhancing collective action to ensure environmental sustainability, and that the UAE is committed to cooperating with the international community to reduce the effects of climate change and find solutions to this critical file.
For his part, His Excellency Prime Minister Sovaleni underscored the keenness of the Kingdom of Tonga to strengthen bilateral collaboration in areas of mutual concern to serve the common interests of the two countries at various levels.
His Excellency praised the UAE's success in hosting this exceptional international event and its endeavors to enhance global climate action.
