1. Stay calm and do not leave the accident site. Call the police (110) immediately. Leaving the accident site may be interpreted by Japanese law as a “Hit-and-Run Road “accident, which may expose you to trial and imprisonment for a period not exceeding 7 years or a fine not exceeding 1 million Japanese yen, even if you did not intend to flee the scene. Therefore, call the police and the ambulance (119) in case there is an injury at the accident scene, regardless of who caused the accident.

2. File a “Lost Property” report at the police station, and get a copy of the report for follow-up purposes.
