His Excellency Jamal Al Musharakh, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, participated in the urgent debate held by the Human Rights Council on the latest humanitarian developments in and around El-Obeid city the Republic of Sudan.

His Excellency affirmed that the UAE is listening carefully to the briefers who provided a sobering account of the unfolding horrors in the city, and emphasized that there is no military solution to this conflict and that the only viable path forward is an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and an urgent humanitarian truce.

His Excellency reiterated the UAE’s strongest condemnation of all violations of international law committed by both warring parties across Sudan, including the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of protecting civilians and adhering to International Humanitarian Law.

His Excellency further called for an expansion of the existing UN arms embargo across the whole territory of Sudan, as a necessary measure to halt hostilities and ensure the protection of civilians. His Excellency also affirmed the importance of guaranteeing safe, rapid, and unhindered humanitarian access to all affected areas.

Furthermore, His Excellency welcomed the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, and affirmed the UAE’s  support - as a member of the Sudan Quad - for efforts aimed at enhancing civilian participation, and commended the Quintet’s ongoing efforts to advance the civilian political track.

At the conclusion of the statement, H.E. Al Musharakh emphasized that the international community’s main objective must remain a comprehensive, civilian-led political process independent from both warring parties and extremist groups that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability, peace, and prosperity.
