What is the digital attestation service?

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) offers a Digital Attestation Service to enhance the speed, accuracy, and convenience of document authentication and attestation. The service is available through the UAE Embassy in The Hague for eligible documents issued in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Can I attest documents at the UAE Embassy in the Kingdom of Netherlands?

The UAE Embassy in the Kingdom of Netherlands provides attestation services for documents issued by the following countries:

The United Arab Emirates
Kingdom of the Netherlands (including Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba) — digital attestation is available for documents issued in the Kingdom of Netherlands.

To be eligible for attestation through the UAE Embassy in The Hague, documents must first complete the applicable legalization requirements, as outlined below:

UAE-issued documents: must be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
Documents issued in the Kingdom of the Netherlands: must be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs In the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Documents issued from the islands of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which include Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba:

Documents must first be certified by the competent local authority in the place of issuance within the islands, then authenticated by the relevant authorities within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and finally by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, before being submitted to the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in The Hague for final attestation.

Please note: Physical submission of the original document is required to complete the Digital Attestation process.

Log in to the UAE MoFA website using UAE Pass – Select “Attestation Service” from the Services tab. If you do not have a UAE Pass account, click here and follow the steps to create a new one.
Choose the Country of issuance – Select Kingdom of the Netherlands
Fill out the online application and proceed with the payment.
A MoFA-approved service provider will contact you to schedule pickup of your original documents.
You will receive an email with your digitally attested documents, certified by both the UAE Embassy in the kingdom of the Netherlands and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The original documents will be returned to you via courier.

What types of documents does the UAE Embassy in the kingdom of the Netherlands accept?

The UAE Embassy in the kingdom of the Netherlands can attest all personal and commercial documents except:

Commercial invoices and certificates of origin, which must be submitted via eDAS 2.0 on the MoFA website.

Additional guidelines:

Official personal documents (e.g., birth, marriage, and death certificates) must be submitted in their original form for attestation.
All other documents, originals or true copies, will be accepted if attested by the relevant national foreign office.
Documents apostilled in a bundle are not accepted. Each document must be apostilled individually.
Legal documents (e.g., powers of attorney) must be signed before a local notary or legal authority in the Netherlands, then attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands.
A power of attorney containing commercial content is considered a commercial document.
Memorandum and articles of association must be attested separately.
Laminated documents cannot be attested.

UAE Pass is the first national digital identity app that allows users to authenticate themselves with service providers across all emirates using smartphone-based verification.
Download the UAE Pass app and provide basic information such as name, email address, and mobile number to create a basic account.
Visit the website of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and log in using your UAE Pass credentials to apply for document attestation.

2- I have applied for attestation - what are the next steps?

After completing your payment, you will receive an email from the courier with your air waybill (AWB) and pickup date. If any information is missing, they will contact you.

Print the AWB, attach it to your documents, and prepare them for pickup.
You will receive email updates at every stage of the process.
Once completed, you will receive notification email confirming delivery, along with tracking information.

3- When will the courier collect my application?
The courier will normally collect your documents within 24 hours of successful submission of your application via the UAE MoFA website.

4- What happens if I am not available during the scheduled collection of my documents?

You will receive an email notification that an attempt to collect your document has been made by the courier agent, a new collection schedule will also be provided. You may also receive SMS and phone calls regarding re-attempts to collect your document.

5- How will I be assured that my documents are safe during transit via courier?
Courier partners follow strict document handling guidelines and offer track-and-trace mechanisms to ensure security.

6- When will I receive my attested documents from the courier?
Within 24–48 hours after release from the UAE Embassy in The Hague. For remote areas, delivery may take 48–72 hours.

7- What do I need to present to the courier agent during delivery?

You must present a valid proof of identification.

8- What if my documents don’t meet the requirements?

If your application is rejected due to non-compliance with the guidelines:

The attestation fee will be refunded automatically.
The service fee (including delivery) is non-refundable.
Your original documents will be returned to you.
You may submit a new application once all applicable requirements are met.

9- Can I send non-Dutch documents to the UAE Embassy in Netherlands for attestation?

No. Documents not issued in the kingdom of the Netherlands must be attested by the UAE Embassy or Consulate in the country of issuance.
