The UAE has a rich and diverse cultural heritage dating back thousands of years, and the country pays great attention to preserving its heritage and documenting it for future generations.

The development achieved by the UAE in the fields of urbanization and modernization has led to coexistence between originality and modernity. In this context, the UAE leadership, headed by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and his brothers, members of the Supreme Council of the Union make an effort to revive and develop the heritage of ancestors.

The cultural and educational institutions in the country are working in an organized manner with the aim of introducing this civilizational and cultural heritage.

Among the institutions concerned with preserving heritage in the country are the Emirates Heritage Club, the Emirates Diving Association, the institution for the Revival of the UAE Heritage, and the Center for Documentation and Research. There are museums and heritage villages throughout the country that preserve examples of the traditions and heritage of the Emirates throughout the ages.

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the United Arab Emirates, had paid attention to fostering folklore, as an asset for the country and for future generations.

His interest was not limited to national heritage, but rather extended to the world heritage. A prize, bearing the name of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan sponsored by UNESCO, has been dedicated to promoting human creativity and heritage works in danger of disappearing.

To promote the cultural exchanges between the UAE and the ROK, the two sides signed the cultural cooperation agreement in 2007. In line with that, exchange of cultural events took place in both countries.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the two countries, the culture ministers of the two countries announced 2020 as the Year of Cultural Dialogue. The event has been extended to 2021 amid the current novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak which has disrupted various cultural events.
