Bilateral Relations

The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Indonesia share close bilateral relations built on a longstanding partnership and cooperation across political, economic, educational, cultural, and humanitarian fields. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1976, both countries have continued to strengthen these ties through high-level visits, joint investment projects, and cultural and educational exchanges. Cooperation also extends to renewable energy and infrastructure, reflecting shared priorities for sustainable development.

The visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, to Indonesia on July 19, 2019, marked an important milestone in bilateral relations, opening new avenues for cooperation and joint initiatives. Economic ties were further strengthened by the signing of the UAE–Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on July 1, 2022, which entered into force on September 1, 2023.

The two countries’ diplomatic presence has expanded steadily over the years. Indonesia opened its Embassy in Abu Dhabi in October 1978, followed by its Consulate General in Dubai and the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center in 2003, and the Indonesian Investment Promotion Office in 2010. The UAE opened its Embassy in Jakarta in June 1991, followed by the UAE Red Crescent Office in 1997, the Consular Services Office in 2014, and the Military Attaché Office in 2019.
