What is the digital attestation service?

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) offers a Digital Attestation Service to enhance the speed, accuracy, and convenience of document authentication and attestation. This secure, paperless service is available through several UAE embassies, including in Cairo, and applies to documents issued outside the UAE.

Can I attest documents at the UAE Embassy in Cairo?

The UAE Embassy in Cairo provides attestation services for documents issued by the following countries:

  • The United Arab Emirates
  • The Arab Republic of Egypt (digital attestation)

To attest documents through the UAE Embassy in Cairo, they must first be attested by their respective national foreign office, as outlined below:

 

How to Apply:

1. Log in to the UAE MoFA website using UAE Pass – Select “Attestation Service” from the Services tab. If you do not have a UAE Pass account, click here and follow the steps to create a new one. 
2. Choose the Country of issuance – Select Egypt.
3. Fill out the online application and proceed with the payment.
4. A MoFA-approved service provider will contact you to schedule pickup of your original documents.
5. You will receive an email with your digitally attested documents, certified by both the UAE Embassy in Cairo and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
6. The original documents will be returned to you via courier.

What types of documents does the UAE Embassy in Cairo accept?

The UAE Embassy in Cairo can attest all personal and commercial documents except:

Commercial invoices and certificates of origin, which must be submitted via eDAS 2.0 on the MoFA website.

Additional guidelines:

  • Official personal documents (e.g., birth, marriage, and death certificates) must be submitted in their original form for attestation.
  • All other documents—originals or true copies—will be accepted if attested by the relevant national foreign office.
  • Documents apostilled in a bundle are not accepted. Each document must be apostilled individually.
  • Legal documents (e.g., powers of attorney) must be signed before a local notary or legal authority in Egypt, then attested by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • A power of attorney containing commercial content is considered a commercial document.
  • Memorandum and articles of association must be attested separately.
  • Laminated documents cannot be attested.

  • UAE Pass is the first national digital identity app that allows users to authenticate themselves with service providers across all emirates using smartphone-based verification.

2. I have applied for attestation - what are the next steps?

  • After completing your payment, you will receive an email from the courier with your air waybill (AWB) and pickup date. If any information is missing, they will contact you.
  • Print the AWB, attach it to your documents, and prepare them for pickup.
  • You will receive email updates at every stage of the process.
  • Once completed, you will receive notification email confirming delivery, along with tracking information.

3. When will the courier collect my application?
Within 24 hours of successful submission via the UAE MoFA website.

4. What happens if I am not available during the scheduled collection of my documents? 
You will receive an email notification that an attempt to collect your document has been made by the courier agent, a new collection schedule will also be provided. You may also receive SMS and phone calls regarding re-attempts to collect your document.

5. How will I be assured that my documents are safe during transit via courier?
VFS courier partners follow strict document handling guidelines and offer track-and-trace mechanisms to ensure security.

6. When will I receive my attested documents from the courier?
 Within 24–48 hours after release from the UAE embassy. For remote areas, delivery may take 48–72 hours.

7. What do I need to present to the courier agent during delivery?
A valid proof of identification.

8. What if my documents don’t meet the requirements?
If your application is rejected due to non-compliance with the guidelines:

  • Your attestation fee will be refunded automatically.
  • The service fee (including delivery) is non-refundable.
  • Your original documents will be returned, and you may resubmit once all requirements are met.

9. Can I send non-Egyptian documents to the UAE Embassy in Cairo?
No. Documents that are not issued in Egypt must be attested by the UAE Embassy or Consulate in their country of issuance.
