Embassy of the United Arab Emirates – Colombo

The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka was established on April 5, 1999. The Embassy shifted to its current location in the year 2002.

The Embassy is situated in the heart of Sri Lanka’s capital city Colombo, which is an hour’s drive (35 km) from the Bandaranaike International Airport. 

The following ambassadors have served at the embassy since 2000.

  • H.E. Saeed Ali Al-Nowais (March 2000 – August 2004)
  • H.E. Mahmood Mohamed Al-Mahmood (February 2005 – August 2012)
  • H.E. Abdulhamid A. K. Al Mulla (September 2012 – December 2017)
  • H.E. Ahmed Ali Almualla (April 2018 – August 2020)
  • H.E. Khaled Nasser AlAmeri (Since February 2022)

The Consular Section of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Colombo (Visa Center) was established on 01 June 2014. It was inaugurated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka along with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates. It is the first visa center for certifying certificates and issuing visas to be established outside the United Arab Emirates.
