49th National Day: Embassy donates 3,000 trees to Embrapa

The United Arab Emirates Embassy in Brazil donated 3,000 seedlings of native species to the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) in celebration of the country's 49th National Day and the 46th anniversary of Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology.

This year, the Emirati National Day was celebrated in a unique way due to the coronavirus pandemic. The trees, which now form the Boulevard of the United Arab Emirates, were planted at Fazenda Sucupira, owned by Embrapa located in Riacho Fundo II, Distrito Federal.

On Monday (november 23rd), Ambassador Saleh Alsuwaidi and the president of Embrapa, Dr. Celso Moretti, planted a seedling of yellow ipe at the company's headquarters in Brasilia, symbolizing the donation of three thousand seedlings. On this day were also present Second Secretary Mr. Saeed Alshehhi and Military Attaché, Colonel Tareq Alshamsi. On Tuesday (november 24th), the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Brazil, Second Secretary Mr. Saeed Alshehhi and Embassy officials and staff planted some seedlings at Fazenda Sucupira and took the opportunity to visit the facilities of the Farm.

In his speech, the Ambassador said: “On this occasion, we commemorate the 49th anniversary of our foundation, where we see the role and planning of the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his principles and values of our country, including its legacy of promoting and protecting the environment and increasing vegetation in the United Arab Emirates ”.

The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates and Embrapa are working together to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The exchange of knowledge in areas such as bioeconomics, Agritech and the animal protein chain is considered a fundamental strategy for the UAE, along with food security policy.
