Development of the bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Serbia were initiated by mutual visits at the highest level, led by His Highness the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.E. Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.
Visits from officials of two countries started in late October 2012. and with continuation of frequent visits an agreement was reached to establish diplomatic relations at Ambassador level in order to preserve bilateral relations. During these visits, several agreements were signed in the common interest of the two countries and the two nations.
A significant step in the relations between the two countries is certainly the Agreement on Visa Exemption signed between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Serbia in September 2018. The visa-free regime for citizens of both countries has been officially implemented in May 2019.
The agreement with the same importance for the two countries is the Agreement on Establishing Joint Committee for cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Serbia. The first session of this important interstate body was held in April 2019.
The Republic of Serbia and the United Arab Emirates mutually respects economic relations and importance of investment projects, especially in the area of agriculture and energy and construction.
In September 2022, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement was signed between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the United Arab Emirates, as a legal framework for the development of bilateral strategic relations in all areas of cooperation.
