Tue 26/11/2019

The United Arab Emirates won membership in the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons for the period from 2020-2022, to become the delegate of the Asian countries that are members of the organisation. This is the first time that the UAE has assumed membership of the Executive Council of the Organisation since its accession to it on December 28, 2000, and is represented by Her Excellency Dr. Hissa Alotaiba, the UAE Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with its accredited missions abroad, made efforts to support the country's candidacy. The Embassy in The Hague organised workshops last September with the aim of promoting its candidacy, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), The Executive Office of the Committee for Goods Subjected to Import and Export Control , the Rabdan Academy and Chemical Defense and the National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority. The council consists of nine members from Africa, nine from Asia, five from Eastern Europe, seven from Latin America and the Caribbean, ten from Western Europe and other countries, and one member appointed periodically once from Asia and once from Latin America and the Caribbean.
