UAE Consul-General Draws Attention to 2026 UN Water Conference at (NIIA) Policy Seminar in Lagos

His Excellency Salem Al Jabri, Consul General of the United Arab Emirates in Lagos, took part in a seminar organised by the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs on ‘Nigeria’s role in capitalising on integrated trade markets within the framework of regional agreements’.

 The Consul General’s participation came as part of the UAE’s commitment to strengthening economic and trade cooperation with the Federal Republic of Nigeria and supporting efforts aimed at promoting regional economic integration in Africa.

During his address at the event, the Consul General spoke about the UAE’s experience as a successful global model in the field of trade and investment, and its pivotal role in linking Asian and African markets through advanced infrastructure and a competitive business environment, thereby contributing to the promotion of cross-border trade and supporting sustainable economic growth.

He also highlighted Nigeria’s economic and geopolitical strengths – such as its diversified economy, strategic location and large population – as key factors enabling it to capitalize on integrated regional markets. He stated that these advantages would enhance the country’s ability to increase exports through the development of the industrial sector and attract further foreign investment, thereby supporting sustainable economic growth and reinforcing its position as a key driver of development and trade on the African continent.

The Consul General underscored the growing role of the United Arab Emirates as a strategic partner in supporting intra-African trade and strengthening African countries’ links with global markets.

He also spoke about the UAE’s development efforts in Africa, explaining that they are in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, He also highlighted the United Nations Water Conference, which will be held in partnership between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Senegal in Abu Dhabi from 8–10 December 2026. The conference aims to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6, which relates to providing clean water and sanitation for all, particularly in Africa.

He highlighted the importance of Nigerian institutions involved in development and water management participating in this event, and expressed the hope that it would yield Innovative and sustainable solutions to the challenges of providing clean water in Africa.
