Economic relations between the two countries were initially based on the export of Romanian goods. The United Arab Emirates and Romania formalized the relationship by opening the Economic Promotion and Cooperation Office in Dubai in 1974, an entity that subsequently continued to work for the benefit of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Later, the Romanian Office for Economic Promotion and Cooperation was merged into the Romanian Consulate General established in the United Arab Emirates.
The value of non-oil bilateral trade between the UAE and Romania registered a positive trend of 9%, from US$805.7 million in 2022 to
US$812.2 million in 2023, and will continue to increase thanks to the signed memorandums of understanding and agreements.
Traditional trade relations between the UAE and Romania have increased the interest of Romanian companies in the Emirati market, with many of them establishing branches in the United Arab Emirates, especially in the Emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, mostly in the fields of information technology and services, artificial intelligence, communications, general trade, real estate, agriculture, food security, services, transport, and infrastructure etc.
