Mohamed Al Sahlawi has been appointed as the UAE ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and the European Union in November 2021. Prior to his current post, Ambassador Al Sahlawi has been the UAE Deputy Head of Mission in Paris and the UAE Deputy Permanent Delegate to UNESCO. During his time in Paris, Ambassador Al Sahlawi oversaw numerous high-level visits, meetings, and events, additionally he has been appointed as alternate representative to the Executive Board at UNESCO.
During his time in Abu Dhabi at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Al Sahlawi held numerous positions and tasks including, Deputy Director of European Affairs Department, Deputy Director of Policy Planning Department, member of the Syrian crisis committee, and representing the UAE in several working groups within the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh.
Before joining the foreign service, Ambassador Al Sahlawi has been a civil servant throughout his career, starting his first job at the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs and later joining the office of the Vice President of United Arab Emirates as a senior political analyst.
Ambassador Al Sahlawi completed his bachelor’s degree in International Relations and minored in Governmental Studies at the American University of Sharjah. He later earned his master’s degree in Environment and Energy Policy and Transnational Security from the Center for Global Affairs at New York University. Most recently Ambassador Al Sahlawi, completed the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Program from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.
