President of Timor-Leste Commends His Country’s Relations with the UAE and Affirms Support for Its Positions

His Excellency Dr. José Ramos-Horta, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, received His Excellency Abdullah Salem AlDhaheri, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia and Non-Resident Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, at the Presidential Palace in the capital, Dili.

The meeting discussed the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and ways to further strengthen them across various fields.

President Ramos-Horta commended the growing bilateral relations and expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s initiative to construct a female students’ accommodation complex in Dili, stressing the importance of the project in supporting the education sector and Timor-Leste’s sustainable development efforts.

He also affirmed his country’s solidarity with and support for the UAE’s position regarding the attacks and practices threatening the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed Timor-Leste’s rejection of violence and acts of aggression and underscored the need to resort to peaceful means to resolve disputes.

President Ramos-Horta expressed his desire to visit the UAE accompanied by a delegation of Nobel Peace Prize laureates to meet with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and convey their solidarity with the UAE.
