UAE Ambassador and Timor-Leste Prime Minister Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Development Projects

His Excellency Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, met with H.E. Abdulla Salem AlDhaheri, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Indonesia and Non-Resident Ambassador to Timor-Leste, in Dili to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation across various fields.
 
H.E. the Ambassador conveyed the greetings of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, along with his wishes for continued progress and prosperity for Timor-Leste and its people. The Prime Minister, in turn, asked the Ambassador to convey his greetings to H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. The Ambassador also congratulated the leadership, government and people of Timor-Leste on the anniversary of independence, commending the country’s progress and its supportive positions towards the UAE in international forums.
 
For his part, His Excellency stressed the UAE’s commitment to expediting the implementation of the Female Students’ Accommodation project, for which the foundation stone was laid on 20 May 2026, with funding and implementation provided by the UAE International Aid Agency. The project aims to support female students from low-income and disadvantaged families.
 
The two sides also discussed avenues for cooperation in the healthcare sector, particularly support for Lahane Hospital through the provision of medical equipment and devices, as well as the completion of the agreements on the avoidance of double taxation and the promotion and protection of investments.
 
The two sides further discussed cooperation in the field of training Timorese diplomatic personnel.
