The UAE-Belarus Consular Consultative Committee met in Abu Dhabi on Sunday to discuss an array of consular issues including challenges facing the two countries in the delivery of consular services.
The two-day meeting, co-chaired by Yasser Al Shumaili, Director of the Consular Services Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Igor Fisenko, Head of the Consular Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, explored proposals aimed at streamlining and facilitating the provision of high-quality consular services in standards that meet the aspirations of citizens in both countries under consular strategies adopted by the two ministries.
Addressing the meeting, Al Shumaili noted the qualitative leap of progress in the bilateral ties, which he said had directly contributed to strengthening the consular services and other sectors.
He also highlighted the importance of the recent activation of the mutual visa waiver agreement, which would facilitate easy travel for citizens between the two countries.
''The protection and welfare of citizens are among the top priorities of the consular sector at the ministry, which provides integrated consular services to Emirati citizens within the UAE and abroad,'' he added.
Fisenko said the warm welcome and the world-class facilities and services received by Belarusians in the UAE are among the key incentives leading them to choose the Gulf country as their tourism destination of choice.
He expressed his country's desire to draw lessons from the consular expertise and practices adopted by the UAE so as to further boost bilateral consular cooperation.
