The International Development Sector of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, MoFAIC, has organised a strategy workshop for the Year of Giving 2017, which addressed a number of topics related to implementing its fourth stage, titled, "The Developmental Role of Humanitarian Institutions".

It also tackled the initiatives being launched within this framework and how to co-operate to carry them out.

The workshop, attended by several federal and local authorities, was implemented within the framework of the ministry's desire to communicate effectively with all relevant bodies and participants concerned with the Year of Giving initiatives.

It also aimed to gather innovative ideas and unite efforts to better achieve such initiatives, in light of assigning the supervision of the Year of Giving’s fourth stage to Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation.

The workshop focussed on reviewing the fourth stage of the Year of Giving 2017, including 10 major initiatives that constitute an integrated plan of action, to develop a mechanism of action for development institutions, improve their performances and activate their participation in development projects within the country.

These initiatives include the establishment of the Co-ordinating Council for Humanitarian and Charity Institutions to co-ordinate and link humanitarian and charitable institutions, consolidate their efforts, exchange experiences, improve their development work and ensure their alignment with the nation’s strategic directions.

They also aim at developing a range of initiatives, such as a vocational diploma in humanitarian work, to develop national qualified staff in this field and provide them with the necessary skills and expertise to improve overall performances. These initiatives also include a smart platform to group all humanitarian organisations in the UAE, serving as a unified electronic portal for all its projects.

The workshop also included discussions on how to co-operate to implement initiatives and respond to inquiries from different authorities about the types of required support. It also discussed the efforts to contribute to the success of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation in implementing the Year of Giving 2017 initiatives.
