HE Dr. Anwar Gargash receives UN Special Envoy for Yemen

Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the UAE, has received United Nation's Special Envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, to discuss the efforts being made by the UN to convene a meeting between the Yemeni government and the rebels.

During the meeting, Minister Gargash said the UAE backs the current international efforts and a political solution, and noted that it is necessary that any political solution should be founded on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 2216 and should be committed to the principle of legitimacy.

The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs added, "The current circumstances are pushing in this direction, especially after the success of the Yemeni government and that of the Coalition's forces in regaining control of several governorates in addition to the gradual return of the Yemeni government to Yemen."

He stressed that the UAE will continue to back the efforts of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen and will seek to introduce positive and constructive ideas that achieve peace and security for Yemen.

"The UAE believes that a just political solution based on the principles of international legitimacy is what would guarantee the return of security and stability to Yemen without derogating any party or allowing any party from using rebellion and arms as its source of legitimacy," Minister Gargash added.
