  • The UAE and Malaysia enjoy excellent bilateral relations, which date back to the early 1970s with both countries having diplomatic representations afterwards. 
  • Malaysia established its diplomatic Mission in Abu Dhabi in 1983, and the UAE opened it embassy in Kuala Lumpur in 1995. Ever since then, relations between the two countries witnessed remarkable developments especially in the areas of trade and investment. 
  • This has been leveraged by high level visits to both capitals. The most recent of which are the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi & Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces to Malaysia end of July 2019.
  • Visit of His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, King of Malaysia to the UAE in December 2020, and the recent visit of the Hounrable Prime Minister His Excellency Tan Sri Muhyidin Yassin to the UAE in March 2021.
  • The UAE is Malaysia’s biggest trading partner in the Middle East and west Asia. Bilateral trade reached USD 5 billion in 2020 despite the repercussions of the covid-19 and the global economic slowdown. Trade volume between the two countries is expected to increase.
  • Malaysia is also an educational destination for UAE students pursuing their further studies in Malaysian Public & Private Institutes of Higher Learning specially in the fields of Management, Accounting and Law.
