The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was established as a sovereign state on December 2nd, 1971. Finland recognized the UAE in 1972 and in 1975 the UAE and Finland established formal diplomatic relations.
The bilateral relations are underpinned by a number of bilateral agreements and Memoranda of Understanding:

The first bilateral Political Consultation Meeting between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland took place on 17 November 2022.
The first Joint Committee Meeting between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland took place on 27 January 2021. The second round of the UAE-Finland Joint Committee was held on 22 November 2024 in Helsinki, as part of a broader UAE trade mission to Finland.
In December 2024, the Helsinki Policy Forum Steering Group met in Abu Dhabi and was welcomed by H.E. Lana Nusseibeh, UAE Assistant Minister for Political Affairs.
In 2025, the UAE and Finland celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations and mark the occasion with various high-level visits, cultural and other activities.
