The United Arab Emirates participated in a two-day Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) event, which took place from 11 – 12 June, in Berlin, Germany.
During the conference, the UAE expressed its commitment to the Ukrainian people, its recovery and reconstruction, and underlined the UAE's continued efforts at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict, stressing the importance of resorting to diplomacy, dialogue, de-escalation, and mitigating the humanitarian repercussions resulting from the crisis.
Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, who led the UAE delegation, emphasized the country’s firm belief in maintaining channels of communication with all parties involved. The UAE succeeded in facilitating captive exchanges for the fourth time since the beginning of this year, reflecting the country’s strong relations with both sides.
Moreover, Her Excellency Al Hashimy stressed the UAE’s commitment to forging a robust partnership with Ukraine through finalizing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the latest historic milestone in bilateral relations.
Her Excellency highlighted endeavors by the UAE, including the allocation of USD 105 million for the humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including food and medical supplies, ambulances and generators, as well as laptops and educational supplies to assist Ukrainian civilians and children.
The UAE also outlined upcoming support plans which will focus on enhancing Ukraine’s educational and healthcare systems, including women’s and mental health.
On the sidelines of the Conference, Her Excellency conducted a number of bilateral meetings, including with Her Excellency Olena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine, His Excellency Thomas Bagger, State Secretary at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and His Excellency Jens Ploetner, the Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the German Federal Chancellor.
Her Excellency was accompanied by His Excellency Ahmed Al Attar, the UAE’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.
