The UAE Embassy in the Egyptian capital Cairo organized a seminar on Zayed Humanitarian Day, which was attended by Her Excellency Mariam Al Kaabi, UAE Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the Arab League, and His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Al Orabi, Former Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
During the seminar, Her Excellency said, “The UAE marks Zayed Humanitarian Day every year during Ramadan in memory of the late founding father, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The leadership, government and people of the UAE are keen to commemorate his memory by following late Sheikh Zayed’s belief in giving and performing good deeds, and being inspired by his wisdom.”
HE Al Kaabi said: “Zayed Humanitarian Day is an embodiment of the human values followed by the late Sheikh Zayed, including the values of giving, kindness and performing good deeds, which are among the most important characteristics of the people in the UAE. The Day is also dedicated to late Sheikh Zayed’s principles, ideas and vision regarding humanitarian work.
"The late founder of the UAE was one of the most influential figures in the field of global humanitarian work, as he extended a helping hand to those in need across the world, reinforcing the reputation of ‘Zayed the Good’ for many countries and peoples,” HE Al Kaabi added.
The UAE’s commitment to humanitarian aid continued even after the death of late Sheikh Zayed, with the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan following the path laid down by the founding father, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, now continuing on this path of kindness and giving.
Her Excellency emphasized that the UAE has for several years ranked first in the world for providing humanitarian aid relative to its national income.
Her Excellency pointed out that late Sheikh Zayed focused on projects in multiple countries that benefited people, such as housing, construction and land reclamation projects, hospitals, schools, and cultural and educational centers.
Her Excellency said, “The UAE was one of the first countries support humanitarian initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it sent around 3,000 tonnes of medical supplies to more than 142 countries to support their efforts to address the effects of the pandemic. In addition, more than 40 donors and humanitarian and charitable institutions are based in the UAE today, with their assistance reaching every country in the world, which helps maintain the UAE’s status as a significant center for international humanitarian work.”
For his part, His Excellency Al Orabi said, “late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan instilled the principles of humanity, tolerance and coexistence in the hearts of his children, and these firm principles extended beyond the UAE until they became a role model. He was a wise politician who placed the UAE among the developed and influential countries in the region and gave it an important role in spreading peace in the world.”
Dr. Thuraya Al-Aseeli, Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, in Cairo university, said, "I'm speaking today in memory of late Sheikh Zayed as an Arab citizen who lived the best moments of her life in the UAE where I participated in many literary activities. I witnessed how the late Sheikh Zayed supported women’s empowerment in society across all fields. His efforts to spread the values of tolerance were an example of kindness and giving, and have left a mark in the world that will never be forgotten.”
