UAE participates in Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process meeting to foster development in Afgnaistan.
A UAE delegation attended the Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process on Afghanistan, which was held Thursday in Ashgabat and co-chaired by Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
Ahmed Al Hameli, Director of West Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, who headed the delegation, said the UAE attaches great importance to the meetings focused on improving the economic situation and enhancing development and stability in Afghanistan.
He pointed out that between 2012 and 2017, the UAE provided a total of US$ 430 million in aid to Afghanistan, in addition to setting up investments in the country that contributed in creating jobs and fostering the economy there.
Al Hameli added that in 2018, the UAE delivered 3,330 housing units to Afghani citizens as part of the US$ 200 million Al Qasba project.
The meeting discussed the existing and planned infrastructure projects in Afgnaistan, as well as other areas pertinent to Istanbul Process, such as security of regional infrastructure and trade facilitation on new trade and transport routes.
