A UAE delegation, headed by Mohammed Sharaf, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Economic and Commercial Affairs, on Tuesday concluded a three-day visit to Sudan, during which, they inspected a number of Emirati projects, including "Amtar" in the Northern State, and also met several Sudanese officials.

Mohammed Sharaf headed the UAE side in the first round of talks, while the Sudanese side was headed by Abdul Ghani Al Naeem, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry.

Sharaf said the UAE is keen on further strengthening fraternal ties with Sudan, in line with the leadership's vision. He also referred to the potential for boosting cooperation.

Al Naeem briefed the UAE delegation members on the investment opportunities available in Sudan and stressed the need to increase cross visits by officials and business leaders in the two countries, as well as the possibility of setting up a joint business council and holding a meeting for the joint committee on political consultations.

The delegation members also met senior officials from the Sudanese ministries of finance, economic planning, investment and commerce as well as members of the business community there.

The Sudanese side applauded the UAE's developmental initiatives in many states of Sudan, such as the projects in Shandi and Al Dabbah.

The Sudanese side also praised the UAE leadership's keen interest to support Sudan's development efforts.

The two sides referred to the identical points of view and stand on Arab, regional and international issues, including the need to combat terrorism and extremism.

The UAE delegation members lauded Sudan's active participation in the Saudi-led Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen.

Sudan renewed its firm position in support of the UAE's sovereignty over its three islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa and its full support to the UAE's endeavours to end the Iranian occupation of the islands through peaceful solutions.

The UAE delegation members welcomed the lifting of the United States, US, sanctions on Sudan, saying it was a positive decision that would strengthen the country's position both regionally and internationally. They also commended Sudan's ongoing reconstruction and development efforts.
