UAE participates in Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Norway.

Hiba Al Junaibi, Acting Chargé d'Affaires at the UAE Embassy in Norway, participated, yesterday, in the Nobel Peace Prize 2018 ceremony, which was held in the Norwegian capital, Oslo.

The ceremony was attended by Harald V, King of Norway, Queen Sonia, Crown Prince Haakon, and other members of the Norwegian royal family, as well as Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway, Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide, Norwegian Foreign Minister, and Norwegian government officials, ambassadors and dignitaries, along with international dignitaries and peace activists.

A total of 331 individuals and organisations were nominated for the Nobel Prize this year, and the Nobel Peace Prize 2018 was shared by Denis Mukwege from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nadia Murad, an Iraqi Yazidi rights activist, for their efforts to end sexual violence in areas of armed conflict.

A committee of Swedish and Norwegian experts award the prize on an annual basis in five categories, which are peace, chemistry, physics, medicine and literature. The Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo and the other prizes are awarded in Sweden while the total value of the prize’s awards amounts to 9 million Swedish Krona (US$1.1 million).
