The diplomatic relations between the two countries began in 1971, the UAE established its embassy in the Italian capital, Rome in 1981, while Italy established its embassy in Abu Dhabi in 1979. Relations between the UAE and Italy are based on solid foundations of shared visions and interests, and this is the basis of the UAE's foreign relations in general, which makes it always able to develop and grow and achieve it's desired goals. The inauguration of the new headquarters of the country's embassy, "Villa Durante" in Rome on July 14, 2017, reflects the UAE government's keenness to enhance bilateral relations with Italy, and develop and move forward to serve the interests of the people of both countries. Not to mention the exchange of high-level visits which represent an important boost for the UAE-Italian friendly and bilateral cooperation in various fields, foremost of which are the political, economic and cultural fields.
