The UAE and the Hellenic Republic have long-standing diplomatic relations that began on June 21, 1976, and expanded until they reached their greatest strength. The diplomatic journey with the friendly country began on July 14, 1976, after the announcement of the signing of the establishment of a joint committee for economic, cultural, and artistic cooperation, and it entered into force by Federal Decree No. 79 of 1980, and since that time until the present day, the scope of areas and specializations of joint agreements and treaties has expanded.
The strength of the friendship relationship between the two countries has been confirmed in various aspects of cooperation.
Successive agreements, treaties and memorandums of understanding, reaching more than 50 agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries since the beginning of diplomatic relations, strengthened relations between the two countries.
- The Greek Republic opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi in 1989.
- The UAE mission in Athens was opened in November 2008.
- Joint committees held between the two countries:
- The first: January 11, 2012 in Athens.
- The second: May 5 - 6, 2014 in Athens.

- Strategic Partnership
The year 2020 witnessed the exchange of the Joint Statement Agreement to establish the strategic partnership between the UAE and the Republic of Greece, and the exchange of a memorandum of cooperation in foreign and defense policies.
The declaration aims to achieve more results, initiatives and joint work in key areas of common interest. The partnership included several pillars, including political cooperation and development. International humanitarian affairs, where the two countries agreed to enhance political dialogue and strategic consultations and increase compatibility with regional and international issues of common interest.
