Since the founding of the UAE nearly 50 years ago, our country has pursued deep political ties and economic cooperation with African nations.
The UAE currently maintains 24 diplomatic missions across the African continent. In addition, the UAE opened 11 embassies in Sub-Saharan African between 2010 and 2019, adding to the already wide diplomatic network of the UAE.
Our partnerships and development projects reflect the robust relationship between the UAE and the African region. Today, the UAE is deeply invested in the prosperity and security of the entire African continent. The UAE invests in critical infrastructure projects, responds to humanitarian crises, and offers political support when requested.
Growth and prosperity in Africa depend on security and stability. The nexus between Arab and African issues underscores that solidarity in confronting our shared challenges must remain a priority. As such, representation of African and Arab voices in international fora such as the UN is essential.
African governments and regional organisations must have a stronger say in the UN's actions. When the UAE joins the UN Security Council for the 2022-23 term, we will promote African perspectives and proposals when broader support is critical.
The UAE also intends to work with the A3—the bloc of three elected African states on the UNSC—and other partners in the Security Council to call attention to the linkages between climate change, resource scarcity, and insecurity – the consequences of which are borne disproportionately by African countries.
The UAE also firmly believes in the importance of empowering women, including them in decision-making and ensuring their full, equal, and meaningful participation in all matters relating to political cooperation and peace and security.
