Bilateral Relations

Bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and the United Republic of Tanzania have been grounded in friendship and shared interests since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1974. Cooperation has grown across trade, investment, development, tourism, education, and culture, as well as joint efforts on climate change. The opening of Tanzania’s embassy in Abu Dhabi in 2002 and the UAE Embassy in Dar es Salaam in 2007 helped strengthen communication and coordination between the two countries.

The two countries continue to advance their relationship through high-level meetings and political consultations. In May 2025, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, in Dar es Salaam. Their meeting was accompanied by agreements and memoranda of understanding on customs cooperation, investment in mining, and cooperation between chambers of commerce. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, also met the Tanzanian President during the World Governments Summit in Dubai in February 2026, where they discussed expanding cooperation and partnerships that support development.
