President Dr Muizzu concludes his official visits to Türkiye and the UAE

H.E. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has arrived back in the Maldives today, after concluding his official visits to the Republic of Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

President Dr Muizzu’s visit to Türkiye was made at the invitation of H.E. President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the visit, both leaders held official talks to enhance bilateral relations between the Maldives and Türkiye, discussing new areas for cooperation such as trade, investment, renewable energy, and higher education, among others. President Dr Muizzu also met with other senior officials of Türkiye, including the Vice President and the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly.

President Dr Muizzu next arrived in Dubai, UAE, for the Twenty-Eighth Session of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), where he conducted high-level deliberations with world leaders on climate change.

While delivering the National Statement at the High-level Segment of the COP28, President Dr Muizzu outlined the Maldives’ expectations for COP28, emphasizing the importance of the Global Stocktake committing to a strategy that corrects the course towards a 1.5-degree trajectory in accordance with the Paris Agreement.

President Dr Muizzu also pledged the Maldivian government's commitment to developing renewable energy systems capable of providing 33% of the nation's electrical needs within the next five years, and announced a national drive to plant five million trees across the Maldives.

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level Maldivian delegation comprising senior government officials accompanied the President on the visit to Türkiye, while a high-level Maldivian delegation comprising senior government officials accompanied the President on the UAE visit.
