A delegation from the United Arab Emirates, led by the General Secretariat of the National Committee for Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism and Illegal Organizations, discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in combating financial crimes during an official visit to Spain.
The visit included a series of meetings with Spanish governmental, security, and judicial authorities, focusing on the development of strategic frameworks to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, enhancing cooperation between Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs), implementing targeted financial sanctions, combating trade-based money laundering, and asset recovery.
Both sides also explored ways to strengthen information sharing, coordination in joint investigations, and extradition procedures. The UAE delegation highlighted the legislative and regulatory developments undertaken within the country’s national framework for combating financial crimes, reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to the standards and requirements of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
The visit took place within the framework of the ongoing cooperation between the two countries, which is based on the Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement signed in 2010. Both sides agreed to continue their strategic dialogue and technical cooperation.
The visit also coincided with high-level diplomatic meetings that reaffirmed the strength of UAE–Spain relations and welcomed the progress achieved in the negotiations of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two sides.
