Her Excellency Dr. Hissa Abdullah Al Otaiba serves as the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein. She has a long and distinguished professional career, spanning diplomatic work in the UAE’s missions abroad.
She was appointed Ambassador to the UAE Embassy in Spain from 2009 to 2019, where she gained extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy. She also served as Ambassador to the Vatican and Ambassador to the Principality of Andorra, before moving to the UAE Embassy in the Kingdom of the Netherlands between 2019 and 2021. During the same period, she also held the position of Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague. She then joined the UAE Embassy in Bern, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein, where she has served from 2022 to the present.
Earlier in her career, she served as a consultant at the Planning and Economy Department in Abu Dhabi from 2007 to 2008. She also worked as Head of the Information Technology Department at the International Women’s Forum in New York from 2002 to 2006. In addition, she was Assistant and Resident Representative for Finance and Human Resources at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Abu Dhabi from 2006 to 2007.
She holds a PhD in Computer Science (1991) from the BSL University in Lausanne, Switzerland, as well as a Master’s degree in Information Management from Webster University in Geneva.
